Suparaito BJJ Gi review - from an Older Jiujiteiro

"I am 51 years old. 5' 5" and 170 lbs. This is the first "nice" Gi I have bought after doing BJJ for two years. I am a three day a week practitioner. I have two cheap Gis I bought online which were fine for getting started but I needed to get a real Gi because I am being promoted. I did all the research and suffered from analysis paralysis - too much data. I asked a guys at my school what their go to brands were and Fuji was a top mention. A big consideration was that I wanted a lighter weight Gi after wearing the thicker material Gis for so long. I decided to give the Suparaito a try after two Team Members told me it is a great option. I went with A2 size and the jacket fits me very well = easy to move in, material is extremely durable but supple and the cut fits my body shape well. I want to say that I am not a "gear guy" and do not usually focus on the tools/equipment to do my sports/hobbies. I am way more into the experience than the material items. That said, it makes a huge difference to have a nice Gi for our intense sport. I feel like my body cools down in this Gi quicker. I feel less encumbered and find it easier to scramble fast. One oddity - the pants are weirdly tight in a few spots and seem to be "short" on the waist. Tight around my rear end. So I often feel like they are drooping down despite tyting them properly. I am slender in that area of my body. I have not had this issue with my other Gis. This is not so much a complaint, I just wanted to put this in my review to let others know that absolutely no two Gi brands are exactly the same. The Suparaito is a great Gi. I am very happy with my purchase and will buy another Gi from Fuji if this one holds up well after six months of rolling and washing."

Jackets too small

"I’m 5’11” and 195 lbs. Usually A2 fits well (all my other gis are A2), but the jacket sleeves are too short on this gi. The pants fit perfectly which is annoying. Wish I could mix and match maybe an A2L jacket and maybe A2 pants. I don’t get why they don’t both fit well. Was kind of a bummer because I was excited for this gi."

Pants are too tight.

"The pants are really tight around my thighs, even though the top fits fine. Inhibits flexibility. And I don’t have the body type of unusually thick legs."

Chris C. (3/5)

As expected

"Really light fits excellent. Looks great. Tough to beat. High quality as expected."

Puppy problems

"It’s WAS great. Unfortunately I left it alone to help my kids and my dog shewed the collar immediately! Hahahahaha. Ordered another though. Feels great ready to roll with some friends and give it a round or two. 5’5 160lbs. A1 size fits properly."

Did not fit well.

"Did not fit well based on sizing chart, very baggy. Returning."

"Very light and comfortable"

Superb quality

"Very happy I finally upgraded to Fuji. I’ve been doing jiu-jitsu for about five years and this is my first time getting brand new gear. Material is truly super light and the stitching is high quality. A3 - 5’10” 185lbs Customer service is great if you need to make an exchange, they will cover the return shipping and send you the size that you want. Nancy is great"

Q&A

What is the weight of the gi? A1L or A2! Thanks
The Suparaito GI is 350 gsm and weighs approximately 3 lbs
Is this still IBJJF approved for 2024?
We have a new gi that is coming out soon that will meet all of the NEW IBJJF rules that come into effect in late 2024. Until then, most of our gis are legal to use in competitions.
Hey I’m 5’11 300lbs which size do you recommend?
GI sizing goes by weight than height. A6 is where you fall on the size chart but the GI will be long and need to be altered to fit you better
Can I get measurements by inches in the gi top? Specifically width and length of jacket on A6 Suparaito Frosty edition.
GI sizing goes by weight and then height. Customer service will be in touch to assist you further
Hi there, could I be notified via email as soon as a certain men's gi is available? Suparaito 2.0 red/gold A2L. Thank you!
This item is not being restocked at this time. Sorry!
